Everything to Know About Planning a Mr Treasure Hunt Event

Planning a corporate team-building event or private group outing can feel like managing a dozen moving parts at once. Whether you are trying to figure out how augmented reality integration works on the trail or wondering if your team can hunt in the rain, we’ve put together answers to the most common questions about Mr Treasure Hunt adventures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a Mr Treasure Hunt unique compared to standard team building?

Mr Treasure Hunt events blend classic scavenger hunt mechanics—like location-based puzzle solving, deciphering clues, and team navigation—with modern augmented reality (AR) technology and deep local knowledge. Instead of basic trivia, teams interact with physical landmarks, historic art, and urban architecture while using AR features to unlock hidden clues and challenges right on their mobile devices.

Where can we host a treasure hunt?

We cover over 35 locations across the San Francisco Bay Area, including popular corporate hubs, historic neighborhoods, world-class museums, and scenic parks. Featured spots include:

  • San Francisco: North Beach, Embarcadero, Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, Union Square, and the de Young Museum.

  • Peninsula & South Bay: Palo Alto, Stanford Campus, Mountain View, San Jose, and San Mateo.

  • East Bay & North Bay: Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek, and Sausalito.

Have a custom venue or private corporate campus in mind? We can also design custom routes tailored to your specific location.

How long does a typical hunt last?

Most event schedules run between 2 to 2.5 hours, which includes an interactive kick-off briefing, approximately 90–120 minutes of active hunt time, and a spirited wrap-up scoring ceremony with photos and awards.

How big or small can our group be?

Our hunts are designed for groups of almost any scale, from intimate team retreats of 10 participants to large corporate events of 500+ attendees. During the hunt, participants break into small teams (typically 4–6 people) to ensure everyone actively participates in problem-solving and navigation.

What technology or equipment do participants need to bring?

Just a smartphone with a camera and internet access! We provide all specific event materials, clue packages, and instructions for accessing our interactive AR features before you start. Comfortable walking shoes and an inquisitive spirit are highly recommended.

How physical are the treasure hunts?

Our events are walking-based and designed to be accessible and inclusive for all fitness levels. Teams move at their own self-selected pace through scenic urban or park corridors, typically covering 1.5 to 2.5 miles over the course of two hours.

What happens if it rains on event day?

With a day or two notice, we can easily switch your event to one of our popular museum locations!    For extreme or severe weather, we offer flexible indoor alternatives (such as museum-based hunts at venues like the de Young Museum or San Francisco City Hall) or rescheduling options.

Can we customize the event with company branding or specific trivia?

Yes! We regularly integrate custom company trivia, project milestones, team inside jokes, or specific company values into clue pathways. It’s a great way to align the event with your company retreat theme or annual quarterly kickoff.
