Here’s a quick overview of how Mr Treasure Hunt’s Augmented Reality app works:
First, for our events that incorporate Augmented Reality (AR) clues, you’ll need to download the app. Mr Treasure Hunt cue packages will always include QR codes you can use to easily download the app. Or you can search for “Mr Treasure Hunt AR Experience” in the App Store or Google Play

NOTE: The app is used in conjunction with the clue package – the app is used only to reveal clue solutions at AR clue locations.
Here’s an example of the app in action:
For outdoor events, unless otherwise noted in your clue package, all Augmented Reality markers you will be seeking are GPS-based markers. These markers are placed virtually in a particular location and will be activated by your app when you are within a certain range (typically around 20-25 meters) of the marker’s location. This means that you just need to be near a marker’s location to get the AR message to be appear. This is in contrast to “real-life” clues which require you to get very close to a plaque or statue etc to be able to note whatever information you need from that object..
The way our app works is that when an AR marker is activated (meaning you are within the range of the marker and have your app open), the app will place the image or 3D character in front of you and the image will stay on your screen for 10 or more seconds or until you move out of the range of that marker.
When you solve the location of a clue which is marked as AR in your clue package, head to the area you solved and open the app and click your treasure hunt location. You will usually see several location options which are active at any one time, but you only need to click the location of the event you’re doing.
If you’re within approximately 25 meters of the CORRECTLY SOLVED location for the AR clue you’re working on, a message will appear along with a photo or 3D character. The instruction in the clue package will ask you to read the message and enter a portion of the message in your clue package solutions page.
IMPORTANT: If you open the app and click your event when you are NOT in the area of an AR message, nothing will appear on your screen. (It will look like your camera view)
ONLY when you’re within the 25-meter radius of a\n AR message will a message appear. A blank screen does not indicate anything wrong with the app. It just means you are not near an AR message location.
